Sailed from Aberdeen in 1835 on the Ship Arkwright with his wife Mary Jane Fraser Watt and their three children Mary, Alexander Jr. and Peter M.; arriving in New York in October.
A trained physician in Scotland, he settled in Newburgh, NY on the Hudson River and opened his practice. Both sons studied with him and became Medical Doctors.

Though this stone memorializes him in his home town in Scotland, he is buried in Orange County, New York, where he practiced medicine since his arrival in America in 1835.
