Allen, a sports promoter for years in the Louisville area, organized the Allen Athletic Club in that city in the 1930s to promote wrestling and boxing. He later became a sports announcer at a West Coast fight club and eventually landed in Louisville where he operated a candy and song book concession at the Buckingham Theatre - a burlesque house and then organized his own sports club.
