James W. Heck, 84, 621 S. Westcott St., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1993, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christy Morningside Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry B. Wolcott, retired, officiating. Burial will be in the Smithland (Iowa) Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Heck was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Shirley, Ill., the son of Grant and Katherine (Alvis) Heck. He cam to Iowa as a child and lived in the Grant Center and Whiting areas. He married Masel L. Parker March 7, 1934, in Slayton, Minn. The couple made their home in Smithland and Rodney, Iowa, where he was a dragline operator, before moving to Sioux City in 1950. He then worked for Armour & Co. until retiring in 1971.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Ramon Heck of Sioux City and Robert Duane Heck of Sergeant Bluff; six grandchildren, Mark Heck, Shelly Rader, Kim Schonrock, all of Sioux City, Paula Heck of Akron, Iowa, Lisa Terriquez of Garden City, Kan., and Deb Heck of Denver and 12 great-grand-children.
