Christened Yolande Marie Louise. French Dancer known throughout her career as Pauline. She trained at the Paris Opera School with F. Taglioni and Vestris and made her debut in 'Mars and Venus.' In the same year she first appeared in London in 'The Sleeping Beauty' or 'La Belle au bois dormant' by Aumer. She had a huge success in 'Le Diable boiteux' as Florinda at Drury Lane. She was a great favourite with audiences due to her beautiful technique and delicate beauty. Her career was badly affected by a disastrous love affair and she retired in 1837 and married an English banker a few years later. Those who saw her considered her to be a great actress and sincere interpretive artist as well a stunning dancer. She was said to contend with both Elssler and Taglioni.
