An Albany legend. Jack was a female impersonator who performed in clubs and reviews in the Albany area. Diagnosed with AIDS, he became an activist and would frequently produce shows (and perform in them) to benefit area AIDS service organizations. He also felt strongly that his illness should not be kept secret and submitted to many interviews for local television stations and newspapers. He hoped that, by raising AIDS awareness, discrimination against people with the disease would diminish. He was also a founder and board member of The Damien Center, a drop-in center for persons with AIDS and their families. Jack had been estranged from his family for many years but was able to reconcile with them a few weeks before his death. The Revs. Ronald Gerber and Jonathan Gray officiated at the interment of his ashes in the churchyard of Grace & Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Albany.
