Sidney was the 5th child of 6 children born to Daniel Gambriell and Salina Jessie (Smith) Gambriell. Sidney's beloved mother died in 1892 when he was just 4 years old. At age 6 he arrived in Quebec, Canada from Liverpool, England with brothers, Frank, Alfred & Arthur. Frank was the oldest at 16 yrs old. Alfred was 11 and Arthur was 8 years old. These Children were sent to Canada to live with relatives there.

In 1911 at age 23, Sidney joined the Canadian military. He served 5 years in 12th regmt. York Rangers, then signed up for Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. He was discharged from the military on Mar. 19, 1919. His military papers describe Sidney as 5' 5 1/2" tall, medium complexion, Brown eyes, Brown hair - Trade, Farmer.

While in the military, Sidney was joined in marriage to Ada Victoria Girling on Sept. 28, 1912. To this union was born 5 children, 1 daughter & 4 sons. The boys were named Alden Maxwell - born 1913, Arthur Spencer - born 1915, Eugene Laverne - born 1920, and Willis Reid - born 1921. The last child was a daughter, Bertha Violet - born in 1923.

Sidney lived long enough to see his youngest daughter turn age 20. He died a month after her birthday on Feb. 24, 1943 in Ontario, Canada.

Life was one of dedication to his family and his responsibilities in life. He was age 55 when he was laid to rest in Prospect Cemetery in Toronto.
