Lydia F. Balge age 99 of 3400 Yorkshire Lane Manitowoc, died Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

The former Lydia Kreft was born on April 8, 1914 at Bielefeld, Germany daughter of the late Friedrich and Frieda (Puellmann) Kreft. The family immigrated to the United States settling in Milwaukee and Lydia was a 1932 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran High School. On May 28, 1938 Lydia was married to Lyle A. Balge at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The couple enjoyed 61 ½ years of marriage together and Lyle preceded her in death on December 1, 1999. In the past Lydia had worked at Holy Family Hospital and was an interior decorator owning and operating Lydia's Custom Creations. She was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, St. John's Ladies Aid, Manitowoc Organ Society and HCE (Home and Community Education).

Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law: Kathleen (Jerry) Bigalke, Milwaukee; Jeanette Smith, Manitowoc; one son and one daughter-in-law: Paul Balge, Menomonee Falls; Gillann Thorndill, Hudsonville, MI; seven grandchildren: Dan (Brenda) Smith, Manitowoc; Debbie Farr, Manitowoc; Jason (Kristi) Balge, East Troy; Doug (Erin) Bigalke, Jacksonville, FL; Luke (Lisa) Balge, Germantown; Heather Bigalke, Milwaukee; Matthew (Jenny) Balge, Milwaukee; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Friedrich and Frieda Kreft; her husband: Lyle A. Balge; one son: Russell Balge; one granddaughter: Tamara Smith; one sister and brother-in-law: Elisabeth (Wilbur) Leist.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Monday June 10, 2013 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church at Newtonburg. The Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate with entombment at the Knollwood Mausoleum, 1500 Hwy 310 Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. Memorial donations for St. John Ev. Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School would be appreciated. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Balge family.
