She was a daughter of Andrew Smith (1780-GA-1858-MS) and Nancy Roberts/Robards (born after 1790, died after 1853 in Hancock Co., MS). Both were buried at the old Sones Chapel Cemetery in Pearl River County, MS.

He was a grandson of DAR Patriot, Andrew Smith who was killed by an Indian as he was clearing the GA bounty land he had received for his service in the American Revolution, and Nancy Ann Kennedy who then married John Wheat, another DAR Patriot.

He first married (about 1834) Nancy Ann Wheat (2 Jan 1819-7 Jan 1836 , burial unknown). She was a daughter of Joseph Wheat (Memorial#13627209) and Elizabeth Bagley. He and Nancy had one son, Joseph Ann (1836-1903, Memorial #31993224).

She was a sister to James Pascal “Poplar Jim” Smith (#31984971); Andrew Jackson Smith (ca 1812-ca 1865); William “Juckers” Smith (89225146); Andrew Jackson Smith (ca 1814-ca 1865); Jeptha Smith (#46887885); Hiram Prentis Smith (#41501725); and Benjamin Franklin Smith (ca 1830-ca 1866).
