Abel Salinas was called by the Lord Tuesday, March 18, 2008. “God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.

Mr. Salinas, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loving friend. He was loved by many. He had a great heart which he shared with family and friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed agriculture and ranching. Though his heart truly belonged to ranching. Before his retirement he was employed with the Laredo Independent School District for many years. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margarita B. Salinas who passed away Aug. 13, 2005; also, three grandchildren San Juanita (Lupita) Benavides, Jesus Antonio Benavides Jr. and Margarita Del Refugio Garcia; parents Manuel and Victoria G. Salinas; and brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son Abel Jaime (Mirna) Salinas.

Daughters: San Juanita (Jesus) Benavides, Margarita Norma (Arturo) Garcia and Maria de Jesus Salinas.

Grandchildren: Myrna Salinas, Amabel J.(Jason) Wood, Abel Jaime (Dolores) Salinas Jr., Alejandra (Eduardo) Lozano, Ana Maria Benavides, Jessica Jane Benavides, Jesus Antonio Benavides Jr., Arturo Salvador Garcia, Abel Enrique Garcia, Mayita Hinojosa and Angelabel Garza.

Also five great-grandchildren.

Brothers and sisters: Bertha (Juan Jose deceased) Martinez, Guadalupe (Santos) Martinez, Manuel (Rafaela) Salinas and Fernando (Juanita) Salinas.

Sister-in-law: Herminia M. Salinas.

Also, nepews, nieces, numerous other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2008, from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Avenue. Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at San Vicente de Paul Catholic Church. Interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
