Son of Alexander and Margaret (Horan) Florentine. His death certificate states that he was born in Kansas on 1 October 1859. That information was from hospital records. William was actually born while his father was stationed at Fort Randall in the Nebraska Territory. In the 1860 census he is not enumerated there with the family. In the 1880 census he is an 18 year old working in a stable. It is more likely that the birth took place in 1860/61.

In a pension application in 1900 his mother states the whereabouts of one son unknown. This appears to be William. In 1910 a W. D. Florentine age 49, born Kansas, parents born New York is enumerated as a widow/female in Oakland. In spite of the discrepancies I believe this to be William.

On 9 May 1916 William begins treatment for chronic heart disease at the San Joaquin County Hospital in French Camp. He died there at 8 p.m. on 24 May. His occupation is given as teamster and he is single. His burial took place on 26 May 1916 at the cemetery connected with the County Hospital. Later there was a mass removal of graves to make way for new county buildings and the present location of William's remains are unknown.
