Son of Alexander and Margaret (Horan) Florentine was born while his father served in the Army and was stationed at Fort McHenry - Baltimore Maryland.

In the 1880 census he is enumerated in San Francisco in his father's household with siblings: William H., Elizabeth E., Mary, Alexander, Margaret, Edward Henry, Josephine, George.

In 1889 Walter appears in the San Francisco City Directory as a laborer. In 1890, a teamster for the Quartermaster's Department, U.S.A. boarding at 2730 Greenwich.

In San Francisco in 1900 census Walter age 35, single a teamster,sh boarder in Crutchfield household. In 1910 he is in Los Angeles in a household headed by his mother, Margaret. He is a laborer at the Water Company.

On 6 May 1913 Walter married Lillian Mills the daughter of E. D. Smith and Jane Dixson. At the time of his death he was a city employee and lived at 1417 N. 58th street in Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, California. He died at home on 1 October 1919 at 5:30 p.m. His death was due to carcinoma of the larynx. Burial at Calvary Cemetery took place on 3 October 1919.
