Old Zion Cemetery is located on land which once belonged to Alexander and Sinia Fields. In the 1960s, there were still living members of the Fields family who grew up visiting the graves of Alexander and Bartholomew in this cemetery. When the Fields headstones were installed here in 2014, nothing of the old wooden markers remained, and we did not know where within the cemetery they were buried. The present owners of this cemetery, St. Mark AME Zion Church, gave permission for us to select a plot in the cemetery that did not appear to be already in use for the present placement of the headstones for both Alexander and Bartholomew Fields.
Proven children of Bartholomew not in order of birth include:
(1) Dicey was named as Bartholomew's only living child in his Revolutionary War Pension Application.
(2) Louisa Fields obituary, "Louisa Fields, youngest daughter of Bartholomew Fields, a Revolutionary War veteran, died Dale Co., Ala., December 14, 1844 in the 46th year of her age." Southwestern Christian Advocate
(3) Mary Fields married to Bennett Bizzell
(4) Bartholomew Fields, Jr., married Rebecca. He died circa Nov 1864 in Darlington County, South Carolina.
(5) John Fields born c. 1784 married Rebecca. He died 1858 in Darlington, South Carolina. In his will probated 1858 John states that Bennett Bizzell was his brother-in-law.
There are probably other children. Alexander who died in 1851 is often listed by family researchers as a son of Bartholomew, but no proof has been found to support that relationship. If anyone has the needed proof that Alexander is a son of Bartholomew, please let me know. It would be a great help to Fields researchers.
