She became a Registered Nurse upon graduation from Anderson, South Carolina School of Nursing in 1934. After her marriage to Ernest O. Edwards, she worked by his side in the funeral business until their retirement in 1993. The couple first worked at Garrett Funeral Home, Waynesville, NC, then took ownership and opened Edwards Funeral Home in 1964. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville, she worked in the churchs nursery for over 50 years.
After her husbands death in 1999, she continued to live independently at her Lake Junaluska home until she was 96. After spending the last four years of her life with her daughter and family in Marietta, GA, she died April 4, 2010.
