He was admitted to the U.S. National Soldiers Home for Disabled Soldiers in Milwaukee, WI. on Feb 11, 1897 for illness due to an old fracture to the tibia, rheumatism and varicose veins. He was discharged from the home on July 16, 1900. Shortly afterwards he was admitted to the Cook County IL Hospital for Consumptives and died there on Oct 18, 1900.
A government headstone was shipped to Elmwood Cemetery to mark his grave as a Veteran of the Civil War.

December 28, 1874 married Bertha Johanne Caroline Friedericke Fick in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The couple had 4 children together; Adelheit, Harry, Kurt and Walter.
SECOND SUGGESTED EDIT: It is not documented in family records where the body was sent to. Epiphany was the spot for a Catholic hospital that specialized in Herbal remedies for common ailments. GGG Frankenstein had gone to SD to work a circuit of towns as the traveling doctor at the time of his death. His wife was in Kansas at the time of his death.
