Harriet Fiske Zike, age 91, passed away on March 8, 2013. She was born in Atlanta, GA, on June 18, 1921 to Robert S. Fiske and Lillian Colegrove Fiske.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Houston Zike, son James H. Zike and wife Sally of Houston, daughter Margaret E. Gulinson and husband Michael of Carrollton, grandson John H. Zike and wife Natasha of Pflugerville, granddaughters Austin E. Zike and husband Geoffrey Brooksher of Chicago, Amy M. Gulinson of Chicago, Betsy E. Gulinson of Dallas, and sister Ruth F. Whyte of South Setauket, NY.

Harriet graduated from North Avenue Presbyterian School (NAPS) in Atlanta in 1939 and Sullins College in Bristol, VA, in 1941. She met her husband, Jim, at a Presbyterian Sunday School dance in Jan., 1942, Jim obtained a BS degree in chemical engineering at Georgia Tech. They have lived a very fulfilling life, married for 69 years. They have lived in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Argentina, and Trinidad/Tobago.

Early in her married life, Harriet worked for an insurance company, Cotton Valley High School and Louisiana Ordinance Plant. Later, she excelled as a homemaker, devoted to her husband and children. They had an AFS Foreign Exchange Student live with them for eleven months. Mariko Sakai, from Kyoto, Japan, was like a second daughter to her.

Harriet served the community in many ways by being an active leader in the Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts, Brownies, and 4-H Club. She was President of Luther Home Demonstration Club, Gay Hill School PTA , Oasis Garden Club, and Big Spring/Permian Basin Women's Golf Association. Harriet loved people and her interests in life were: travel, golf, snow skiing, water aerobics, bridge, painting, sewing, and going to movies and plays. More than anything she loved to dance and visit friends and family.

A Memorial Service celebrating Harriet's life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at The Buckingham, 8580 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas 77063.
