Hartford, October 21. In the night of the 11th instant the dwelling house of Mr. Ezekiel Markham, in New-Hartford, was consumed by fire. It is supposed the fire was occasioned by the husks which the family had left in the house the preceding evening; and so rapid was the progress of the fire, that Mr. Markham’s three eldest sons, one 17, another 14, and a third, 9 years of age, who slept in the chamber above where the husks were left, were consumed by the flames. If any thing can add to this affecting and melancholy scene by which Mr. Markham is robbed of the flower and strength of his family, it is the loss of a large crop of corn.
