I've always dreaded this moment and prayed it would never really come, but yesterday, my world as I knew it came to an end and the clock stopped ticking for me. After 15 beautiful and happy years, I had to say goodbye to my furbaby Sierra. It was the single hardest thing I've ever had to do and I'm crushed and left with a void that I can't imagine could ever be filled. She brought me so much joy and love and I'm filled with such deep sorrow knowing I'll never hold her in my arms again, feel her sweet kisses, or hear her feisty bark. I'll never understand how such a tiny creature could steal my heart and fill my soul, but Sierra did. She was truly one of a kind and my future will be forever different without her. Ron and I miss her like crazy, but she will forever be our little angel.

Fifteen years ago, an acquaintance at work mentioned she had a litter of Chihuahua's. My daughter, Mary Ellen, had her own apartment and was starting her adult life. I called her and said "Honey, I have your dog!". She was about 8 weeks old, on Friday, Marcy 7th, 1999, we went over and picked out the tiny black female "runt" and named her Sierra. I was given the proud name of "Gim'ma" to administer to my 'granddaughters' needs.

The very next morning, at the vet for her 1st check-up, she had, what was to become a lifelong affliction, her 1st seizure. One would have thought that would shorten or detract from her life, but this girl was the strongest 3 pound dog I've even seen.

At her best, she weight about 3.5 pounds. At the end, she weight 2.4 pounds. She had times when eating was very difficult, but for the most part, she had a good appetite, although it must be said, they had to offer all the delicacy's just to entice her to eat at times.

I have to tell here of the little pouch Mary Ellen wore over her shoulder. She carried Sierra around in that pouch for the last few years. You'd never even know she was there! And Sierra loved the pouch. She was being held safely, near the one she loved best and in the middle of all the action!

She was a one or two person dog. This was not one of the friendly Chihuahua. She gave their reputation a real boost in the butt! But there was never a love so great as the love she had for my daughter. They were one. Where Mary Ellen's hand ended, Sierra began. Fortunately, she loved Ron, Mary Ellen's S-O just about as much and Ron was as dedicated to Sierra as any one can be. They mad a REAL family. Completing this wonderful family is an 80 pound pit-mix named Bailey. He was so gentle and loving with Sierra. He knew she was little and special.

Her last two and a half months were touch and go. She was not in pain, she was alert and interested in what was going on around her. However, she could not walk probably due to the severe arthritis in her neck. She was up and down all night, often as much as 5 or 6 times. She had to be hand fed and often coaxed to eat at all. She was seen at the vet usually weekly. There is no doubt that the love and devotion Mary Ellen and Ron had for this little life is what kept her going and kept her alive the extra time. Their main concern was her well being and it is a tribute to them that they were as aware and diligent in caring for Sierra's needs. Mary Ellen and Ron are hero's when it came to loving and caring for this precious life.

I can't begin to tell how much she was loved and how much she will be missed. The hole she is leaving is unimaginable.

Go with Peace, Sierra. Go with God Sierra. You earned your star in the heavens of our love over and over.
