Charles was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Clinton, to Walter and Etta Mary Bell Armstrong. He married Peggy L. Tucker on Dec. 20, 1959, in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy L. Armstrong, Clinton; children, Peggy Lee (Al) Gilbert, Parsippany, N.J., and LaJuana (Jim) Stern, Fairview Heights; daughter-in-law, Penny Peavler, Clinton; six grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Gilbert, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Lisa (Bob) Narcise, Mount Olive, N.J.; Amanda and Jessica Stern, Fairview Heights; Brian (Desiree) Peavler, Clinton; and Chris (Jessica) Peavler, Clinton; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Barbara E. Armstrong and David L. Peavler; one brother, George E. Armstrong; one sister, Mary Paddock; and one sister in infancy.
Charles was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton.
He served in the U.S Navy as a gunner during World War II.
Charles was a member of the Eagles since 1941, and the American Legion.
He farmed in his early years and retired as a general foreman from Revere Copper & Brass in Clinton.
He loved family genealogy and traced his paternal lineage back to Scotland along with making wine, gardening and fishing on his houseboat at Kentucky Lake.
