He served during the Korean War as a Veteran of the United States Marines.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Nathanial "Trap", Lawrence, Hobart, Cleve, Elijah, and Charles; his sister, Gladys; his sister-in-law, Edna G. Helton.
Survived by his brothers, Howard Helton of Rio Vista and Kenneth L. Helton of Stockton, CA; he leaves several nieces, nephews, and many friends, including the staff at the Harlan Health & Rehabilitation Center.
