Mustered into Capt. John S. Kidder's Co. I on 23 August 1862 at Camp Schuyler, near Herkimer, New York.
Saw limited action at Crompton's Gap near Antietem and then onto Fredericksburg in December where the Union forces were badly beaten and repuled. They retreated back across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg and went into winter camp in Stafford County at White Oak Church. Was a participant in the now famous "Burnside Mud March" of January 1863.
He died at White Oak Church of liver problems.
Initially troops who died in that area were buried in that area. After the end of the war and creation of the national cemeteries remains were moved there.∼Co I, 121 NY Inf.
