John J. Atkinson, aged 76 years, died at his home in Barnesville October 9, 1917, after an illness of several months.
Deceased formerly resided at Cameron, this county, and later at Woodsfield and is well known to many of our people.
He served in the late Civil War.
He leaves a widow and two daughters.
The funeral services will be held at his late home at two o’clock this
( Thursday) afternoon and interment will be made in Greenmount cemetery.

John J. Atkinson was the 8th child born to the parents of Stephen and Elizabeth (Ross) Atkinson in Cameron, Monroe County, Ohio. His father and grandparents were among some of the earliest settlers of Monroe County, Ohio. His father, Stephen was a preacher and farmer, owning several hundred acres along Sunfish Creek and Atkinson Run. John is a Grandson of Robinson Ross, veteran of the War of 1812, grandson of Charles Atkinson, veteran of the American Revolution and Great Grandson of Cornelius Atkinson, veteran of the American Revolution and French Indian War.
