Martha (Atkinson) Beard
b 28 Feb 1838 - d 3 Aug 1924
Martha was the 6th child born, Cameron, Monroe County, Ohio to the parents of Stephen and Elizabeth (Ross) Atkinson. Her ancestral parents and grand parents were of some of the earliest settlers in this region. Martha married Stephen Beard, 1 May 1858, in Belmont County, Ohio. Five children were born to this union, (not in birth order): F. W. ; O. F. ; Rev J. H. ; Lillian and Harry. During the 1880s Stephen and Martha (Atkinson) Beard & family migrated to Iowa and remained there for several years. Their daughter Lillian was born in Iowa per 1900 census. The Beard family returned to live in Belmont County, Ohio before the 1900 Census. Martha’s husband Stephen and son Harry are buried in the Southern Cemetery in Barnesville, OH. I have viewed several trees that mention Martha died in Iowa, however the State of Ohio Death Index states that Martha died in Belmont County, Ohio and the 1920 census has her living with her son in Union, Belmont County, Ohio.
