GROTON - W. Howard Bingham, 77, of 121 Church St., a lifelong area resident, died Sunday morning at a Moravia nursing home where he had resided for the past six months.

He was born Aug. 27, 1893 in Groton, the son of George and Lydia VanSchaick Bingham.

Mr. Bingham was a retired 25-year employe of Smith Corona Marchant and was the supervisor of Groton Cemetery. He was a member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church and the following service clubs: Groton Lodge 496, F&AM; St. John the Baptist Chapter, 30, RAM; Knights Templar Commandery 50 of Cortland; King Hiram Council 18, Royal and Select Masters of Auburn; Knights of York Cross of Honor, 57, of Auburn; Queen Victoria Court 23, Order of Amaranth, Groton; and the Groton Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Easson Bingham of Groton; one son, Clare Bingham of Arcade; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Wayland Mattoon of Groton and Mrs. Richard Ogden of Wappinger Falls; nine grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, one nephew, one niece and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. from Booth Co. Funeral Home, Groton, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Interment will be in Groton Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Groton Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 8 p. m.
