Aldo Cavallero, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, following an extended illness, surrounded by his family, in the loving care at Hinds Hospice.

Aldo was born on November 14, 1922, in Madera to Giuseppe and Arina Massaso Cavallero who were among the large group of Italians who had settled and pioneered Madera.

Aldo attended LaVina Grammer School and later graduated from Madera Union High School with the Class of 1940.

He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater under General Patton. Following his military service, Aldo returned to Madera and farmed with his parents on the family ranch.

He later went to work for The Oberti Olive Co. where he retired in 1991 following 24 years as Shipping Clerk.

In the community, Aldo was active in numerous organizations. He was a devoted member of:
St. Joachim's Parish,
a member of American Legion Post #11,
The Italian Catholic Federation and
The Italo- American Club.
Aldo served on the Madera County Grand Jury in 1968, and also on the Madera County Election Board.
He was a director of the Bonita Soil Conservation District for eight years.

Aldo was also a member of the Madera Historical Society and volunteered his time as a member of the Madera Community Hospital League of Volunteers.

But first and foremost, he was a devoted husband and father.

Aldo was preceded in death by his parents Giuseppe and Arina; a sister, Elba Cavallero, in her youth; and by his brother, Leo Cavallero and his wife Frances.

He is survived by Ada Manfredi Cavallero, his loving wife of 51 years; and his son Gary, both of Madera. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Mike Cavallero and his wife Marsha of Fresno, James Cavallero and his wife Kerin of Madera and their children Danny, Matthew, and Mark, Libby Ames and her husband Jeff of Van Nuys, CA and their children, Robyn Woodyard and her husband Scot and their son Jeffrey and Jenny Osborne and her husband Robert, Timothy Cavallero of Madera, Steven Cavallero of North Hollywood, CA and Joan Mayoh and her husband Daniel of Madera and their daughter Jamie Payne Mayoh.

Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel on Monday, January 16, 2006, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil and Recitation of the Rosary Service following at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
