Mary Elizabeth Liles was born in Kentucky on October 22, 1843, the daughter of Green Liles 1820-1847 and Nancy Jane Collins 1820-1888. She married James Monroe Logan 1836-1914, (son of Tarlton L. Logan 1803-1877 and Jane Campbell 1800-1877,) on September 8, 1859 in Greene County, Missouri. They had 10 children.

In 1903 they bought a farm NW of Greensburg living there for the rest of their lives. This farm stayed in the family for generations.
