Margaret J. "Peg" Drake Rogers was born to William Langdon Drake and Margaret J. Reade Drake on April 12, 1912 in Woburn, Massachusetts, her mother's home town. For the first thirteen years of her life the family lived in Rey, New York, where her father owned a mercantile store in New York City. Her younger brother, William Langdon Drake Jr. was born in 1923. Around 1925 the family picked up everything and moved to California via ship through the Panama Canal and ended up in the city of Santa Monica. They moved around Santa Monica for a few years and eventually ended up on 16th street in a house right next door to her future husband, Clarence Bernard "Barney" Rogers. The two of them attended Santa Monica High School together and both graduated as part of the winter class of 1929. She followed Bernard to UCLA, but decided to try fashion design at a school in Hollywood. On April 12, 1936, her 24th birthday and Easter Sunday they were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Lincoln & Washington in Santa Monica. During World War II, while Bernard was drafted into the army, Peg found a job working for Hughes Aircraft. In April of 1944 their oldest son, Alan Bernard was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming while Peg was visiting Bernard, who was stationed at Fort Warren. After the war they had two more children, Kathleen Jo in October of 1946 and James William in November of 1947.
Peg was very active in the lives of her three children, being involved in boy and girl scouts, and the PTA. As here children got older she eventually opened up a small cosmetic shop on Montana Blvd. In 1977, after Bernard retired from Walt Disney Studios Peg and Barney moved to Oceana, a retirement community in Oceanside, CA. They continued to live there until their passing, Peg in June of 1992 and Bernard in September of 1994.
