Ralph J. Brennan, 83, of 2912 13th Ave., Rock Island, died Saturday at Franciscan Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at his church, Sacred Heart Catholic, Rock Island. Entombment is in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island, with a wake service at 7:30. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Brennan was born Nov. 24, 1904, in Davenport. He married Marjorie Glynn Sept. 22, 1930, in Moline. The couple moved to Rock Island in 1931. She died in 1984.
He retired in 1970 as a sterotyper at The Rock Island Argus, where he was employed 44 years.
He had earlier worked two years as a carpenter. That job ended after he froze his feel while involved in construction of a summer camp for Scouts in Iowa.
He was a former member and secretary for five years of International Stereotypers and Electrotypers Local 89.
He played semi-pro football with several teams, including the Samrocks, Davenport Cardinals and Davenport Independents.
He won the Rock Island Golf Chapionship Class A flight at Saukie Golf Course in 1934.
He bowled many years in the Tri-City Newspaper League and the Progressive League. He played softball with the Argus and Economy Motors team.
Survivors include daughters, Suzanne Brennan, Rock Island, Kathleen Mills, Culver City, Calif., and Mary Harness, Moline; a son, Thomas J., Milan; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
