Peter Grode of Edwardsville route 1, a retired coal miner and a resident in and around Edwardsville for the past 64 years, died Sunday evening at 6:15 at the home of his son, Timothy Grode.
Mr. Grode was born March 29, 1873 in New Orleans, La., son of Martin and Barbara Grode, and had reached the age of 81 years, 13 days. He was married to Minnie Dettmer, who preceded him in death June 15, 1904, and later was married to Charlotte Haas, who also preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1933. A stepdaughter Mrs. W.W. (Ethel) Schultz, preceded him in death April 2, 1947.
In addition to the son, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Mrs. Lewis (Alice) Kershaw and Mrs. Tony (Ruth) Vieth, both of Edwardsville; one brother, Matthew Grode of New Orleans, La.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also a member of the Progressive Miners.
Friends may call at the Straube funeral home after 7 p.m. Monday until Wednesday at 2 p.m. when services will be held at the funeral home. The Rev. R.F. Tormohlen will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Kniser, Joseph Kniser, Domenick Menoni, Harry Meyers, John Admistadi and Joseph Albl.
