Effie Blanche Hines Abernathy, 55, of Spartanburg, SC, died early Wednesday morning, April 12, 1944 following a prolonged illness that became serious several weeks ago.

Born in Polk County, NC; on June 8, 1988; daughter of Joseph Kinchen Hines (1862–1916) and Mary Jane Miller Hines (1864–1921); wife of George Franklin Abernathy (1886–1950).

Active member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Ruby Beatrice Abernathy Simms (1911-1993), Jennie Blanche Abernathy Creech (1915-1990), Mary Sue Abernathy Witherspoon (1920-2002) and Betty Jane Abernathy Israel (1929-1988); sons, Horace Hines Abernathy (1913–1965), Joseph Charles Abernathy (1918–1991), Warren Henry Abernathy (1923-2009), George Franklin Abernathy (1925–2002), and William Glenn "Billy" Abernathy (1928-1992); sisters, Mrs. E.M. Dill and Nannie Hines Davis (1880–1946); and brothers, Risden Harris Hines (1882–1962) and Patrick Henry Hines (1893–1947).

Also predeceased by siblings, Ralph E Hines (1877–1907) and Carrie K. Hines.

Funeral services were held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, April 13, 1944, at Southside Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. J.L. Vipperman and Rev. O.K. Web; interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens..
