Abraham Whitner (sic) & Elizabeth Chambers married July 9, 1843, Lumpkin County, Georgia.

Abraham Whitener is not listed in 1850 census of Gilmer Co; Elizabeth and their oldest child were listed in 1850 census of Cherokee Co, GA, living with an elderly Andrew Chambers (probably her father). According to Ward's history of Gilmer Co, "Ab Whitener, who wore a full, fluffy beard, went to California as a forty-niner. He was among those lucky enough to live to return - dressed in buckskin."

1860 Census: Gilmer Co, GA, Family #226;
Abraham Whitner (sic), 38, b NC (Gold-Miner)
Elizabeth, age 40, b SC
Lucy C., age 16, b GA (Lucy Caroline)
Philip J., age 9, b GA (Philip James "Bud")
Aldona, age 5, b GA
Masadonia, age 3, b GA
John A., age 1, b GA

Whitener family research indicates that Abraham probably died in early 1860s; wife Elizabeth had also died by 1870. It appears that Elizabeth and/or the children moved to Cherokee Co, GA after Abraham's death; none of them are in Gilmer Co in either 1870 or 1880 census.
.. Caroline Whitener & Rufus(?) Cantrell, married Oct 29, 1865, Cherokee Co, GA (No further information)

(Children listed on this petition were Ary Whitener, Henry Whitener, Marion Whitener, Virginia Whitener.)
