TUSCALOOSA | Helen Burton Salmon Davenport Wilhite, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died on May 24, 2014, at the age of 80.
She was born in Jasper, Alabama, graduated from Walker County High School in 1951 where she was selected Miss Walker County High. She went on to attend Florence State Teachers College.
Throughout her business career Mrs. Wilhite reached many individual goals. With World Book Encyclopedia she attained "Flying Circus", a top achievement with Field Enterprises Corporation. In her later career life she worked for the American Heart Association in Birmingham, Ala. as a coordinator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Carl Burton and Clara Lovelady Burton of Jasper; as well as the father of her children, Kaye Don Salmon of Jasper and her husband Julius E. Davenport of Birmingham, Ala.
She is survived by her spouse, R. Gene Wilhite of Tuscaloosa; her children, Kathi Salmon Lucas (John) of Cupertino, Calif., Kaye Don Salmon Jr. of Jasper and Traci Salmon McLeod (Scott) of Suwanee, Ga.; grandchildren, Wesley James Lucas of Eugene, Ore., Alexis Conner McLeod and Hayden Stewart McLeod of Suwanee; one brother, James Carl Burton Jr. (Anita) of Nauvoo; and her best friends and partners in crime, Martha Ford Ceriani, Bettye Winters Floyd and Anne Deason Hoell.
A Memorial Service and Drop in will be held Saturday June 7th, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 1604 Fourth Avenue, Jasper Alabama. Please stop by and celebrate our Mother's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice .
