LELA HELEN JONES (nee PHILLIPS), 69, of Amherst, died Thursday at Lorain Community Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. JONES, who was born in Delta, Ky., had lived in Amherst for 49 years.
She had worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years in area nursing homes and hospitals.
She was a member of the Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church, South Amherst, and enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Mrs. JONES is survived by her husband of 48 years, JOHN L.; sons, Lewis Haden JONES of South Amherst, Larry JONES of Amherst, William JONES of Hinesville, Ga.; daughters, Wanda PHILLIPS of Homerville, Shirley HEMBREE of Lorain, Kathy WILLIAMS of South Amherst and Louise JONES at home; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Monte, Starlin and Luid, all of Somerset, Ky.; and a sister, Adele COMPTON of Somerset.
A son, Roger Dale JONES, died in 1974.
Friends may call 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. today in the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
Services will be Saturday at noon in the Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church, State Route 113, Amherst. The Rev. Carson Fraley, pastor of the North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, South Amherst, will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
