Born to Joseph Greenwalt and Hester Hoops, Tilghman suffered from epilepsy and spent most of his adulthood living with his brother Abraham F Greenwalt in Sandy Hook, Maryland. For years he worked as a Lock Tender for the C&O Canal at Lock #32 where his brother was Lock Keeper. Unmarried, he was committed to Bellevue Asylum on October 15, 1898 as "insane" and died there 16 years later.

Cause of Death: Epilepsy

NOTE: Tilghman Greenwalt was originally buried in the Bellevue Asylum Cemetery but was moved to a mass grave in Rose Hill Cemetery in the mid 1900s when Bellevue was torn down to make way for a new hospital.
