Eugene Roland ""Gene"" Broehm, age 86, of Chilton, formerly of Hilbert, died on Friday August 24, 2012, at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein.

He was born on August 26, 1925 in Hilbert, son of the late Arvin & Lydia (Fredrich) Broehm. He married Ruth Irene Wolf on September 17, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion.

Gene was a partner with Armin Hernke in the Cold Spring Cheese Factory in Hilbert from 1941 to 1948 and then operated the plant from 1948 to 1975 when Golden Guernsey Dairy purchased the plant. He then worked for Golden Guernsey Dairy until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert, The Senior Citizens Groups of Chilton and Kiel, and he was a former member of the Wisconsin Cheese Maker's Association. He also served as a director for the State Bank of Hilbert. Gene loved fishing, playing cards, and dancing with his wife.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth; 5 children, Sharen & special friend Chuck of Green Bay, Gary & Darlene of Winona, MN, David & Christine of Cedarburg, Lynette & Bruce of Hilbert, Cherlyn & Steven of Hilbert; 18 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, La Verna, Germaine, Darlene & Paul; 4 brothers, Jerome & Joan, James & Grace, Carl & Sharon, Curley; and a sister-in-law, Virginia & Jim. He is also survived by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gene was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Milford, Rueben, Leo, & Ronald; and 2 brothers-in-law, Oscar and Harold.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday August 28, 2012 at St. Peter Lutheran Church (43 N. 3rd St.) in Hilbert, with the Rev. Brian Crane officiating. Burial will follow in the Community Cemetery in Brillion.
