HEWITT. — Peter Baierl died Wednesday, Jan. 21st at 8:30 p.m. He had been sick with stomach trouble for the last three months. The funeral was held Saturday from St. Michael's Catholic church, Rev. Father Miller officiating. About sixty of his friends from Marshfield, Auburndale, Sherry, Milladore and Luxembourg followed him to his last resting place. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in Hewitt. Mr. Baierl emigrated to America in 1872 from Bohemia, Germany to Luxembourg, where he conducted a farm for eighteen years. Selling his farm, he moved to Sherry in 1889 and engaged in the saloon business for two years, after which he again moved to Luxembourg and conducted a saloon there for seven years. Selling his property at that place he went to Oregon for one year, to look over the western country. Returning, he again conducted a farm at Sherry for two years, after which he sold his home there and bought the saloon at North Hewitt which he conducted for two years. Selling his place of business there he bought a farm at Mill Creek on which he lived one year, then trading it with Louis Ley for village property in Hewitt and lived a retired life. He served on the town board for one year. He was born June 8, 1847 [sic], and was 66 yrs. and 7 mos. old. He was well liked by everybody and had many pleasant and joking ways. He leaves to mourn him, his bereaved wife, and daughter, Mrs. Barbara Rank.
