Emery's Funeral Service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30th

Emery L. Baer, 85 of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born November 30, 1928 in Logansport, Indiana, he was the son of the late George and Zella Cress Baer. On February 14, 1960, in Rochester, he was married to Arlene Arvin Baer, who survives.

Emery attended Logansport High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the start of the Korean War. His entry scores were high, securing his role in the military as a medic. Since the Marines did not have a medic classification at the time, he wore both uniforms. After his service, he returned home and completed his high school education.

He began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1951 as a brakeman. He was promoted to flagman and retired from ConRail as a conductor after 38 years on the railroad.

A man of noble character, Emery was a loving, devoted caregiver to his wife. He lived his life with a total love for each member of his family. His daughter and granddaughter were the joys of his life. As the firstborn of a family of 9, his siblings looked up to him as the family patriarch. The impact of his sudden loss is immeasurable.

Emery was a member of Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge #33 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790. He also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Cynthia Baer of Logansport; one granddaughter, Shannon Brummitt, of Logansport; two brothers, Allen (Rita) Baer of and Robert (Marilyn) Baer, all of Logansport; three sisters, Mary Emery, Marcella (Donald) Rist and Evelyn (Gary) Byers, all of Logansport; and one sister-in-law, Barb Baer of Logansport and one brother-in-law Thomas Parkins, of Logansport.

He was preceded in death by brother Herbert "Ben" Baer; and two sisters, Luila "Lou" Berkshire and Rita Parkins.

A funeral service will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Emery's nephew, Pastor Dan Gipson officiating.

Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends will be received 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29th at the funeral chapel.
