Anton Pohanka expired at his late home in the eastern part of this city about 5:30 o’clock Saturday morning last, after suffering for several months with cancer of the stomach. The deceased was born in the province of Moravia, Austria, in March 1839. In the early ‘60’s he married Miss Josephine Ozrada, who survives him, including one son, Anton. The late Anton Pohanka, accompanied by his wife and only son, immigrated to the United States in 1881 and came directly to Glencoe, where he had since resided continuously. He earned a livelihood engaged as a laborer, and for several years past had been in the employ of the village during the warmer seasons of the year at street work. He was always regarded as a faithful and conscientious workman. The funeral services were held last Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the Sts. Peter and Paul church, the Rev. Father Quesnel officiating, and the remains were interred at the East Side Cemetery. The usual services at the grave were conducted by Father W.B.J. Jansen. The bereaved widow and son have the sympathy of their many friends in this community.
