OBITUARY
Mary Elizabeth Powell, daughter of Charles E. and Sarah B. Powell, was born Jan. 21, 1851, near Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana. She was married to James William Ashley of Jamestown, Indiana, Sept. 7, 1871. To this union was born ten children, four of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are O.N. Ashley and Mrs. Odelia Burchett of Kansas City, Missouri, A.L. Ashley of Oklen, Colorado, Mrs. Ella Shoop of Rothville, Jesse Ashley of Marceline, and Charley H. Ashley, who lived with her. She became a Christian when she was 13 years of age and has lived a faithful Christian life to the day of her death. Three weeks after her marriage she came with her husband to Chariton County, Missouri, and has lived in this vicinity ever since. Her husband preceded her to the great beyond 19 years ago. At the time of her death she was 72 years, 10 months and 20 days old.
She leaves to mourn her death six children, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
The funeral was held at the Powell Church Wednesday afternoon. Burial in Powell Cemetery.
