Betty Jo Blaney, 87, died at her home in Oklahoma City on Saturday evening, June 14. She was born November 12, 1926, in Grant and grew up in Cordell and Elk City, Oklahoma. Her death followed a years-long illness that kept her home-bound most of that time. After graduating from high school in Elk City, she attended a business college in Oklahoma City, then worked as a secretary for several years. In 1947 she married Tom Blaney in Oklahoma City. After the birth of the first of their two sons she became a full-time homemaker for the remainder of her life. In 1959 the family moved to Sao Paula, Brazil, where Mr, Blaney was an executive with an American meat packer's Brazil operations. It was there where Jo, as she was known by her many friends, took up golf, and became an avid player for many years. She was also active in Sao Paulo's American community, participating in their volunteer work among the city's poor. In 1963 the family moved back to the States and lived in a number of Midwestern cities, finally settling in Oklahoma City. Most of all, said her older son, Thomas, "She was just a great mom - always there when needed." Mrs. Blaney was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors included the two sons, Thomas and Tim, both in Oklahoma City, and a brother, Don of Arlington Texas. Another brother, Gene of Edmond also preceded her in death. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
