On April 14, 2014, August Scheafer passed away peacefully in his home, at the age of 93, with his wife and son by his side.

Augie was born in Shepherd on May 19, 1920, to Henry and Anna Margretha (Wagner) Scheafer. He was the ninth of thirteen children. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII.

On June 4, 1948, August married Ruth Zuelch, and together they raised three children. Augie was a life member of the VFW Post 6774. He also belonged to the Billings Moose Lodge, American Legion and Big Sky Poker Club.

On Sept. 13, 1978, Ruth passed away after battling cancer.

Augie then married the next love of his life, Irene K. Bohl, on Sept. 29, 1979. She had two grown children. Augie enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing and helping his sister and brother-in-law on their farm. After Augie retired, he and Irene traveled throughout the continental U.S., Hawaii and overseas to England.

Augie was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, three sisters and his stepson. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Irene; his daughter Bonnie Evertz; his sons Roy and Scott; his sister Marguerite Michael; his stepdaughter Laurie Harsh; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous others.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral/Memorial Service will be held at Billings American Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27. Following the inurnment will be a Celebration of Life at the Billings Moose Lodge at noon for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial charity donations may be made to the Billings American Lutheran Church or the Rocky Mountain Hospice of Billings.
