Obituary - Ticonderoga sentinel, March 29, 1906, Page 8 WILLIAM HAMMOND
Among those most needing sympathy is the family of William Hammond of Chilson, whose husband and father was called to his eternal rest Sunday, March 25th, after an illness of only five days. About a year ago Mr. Hammond had a severe fit of sickness which left his lungs in a weakened condition, thus making him less able to contend with that dread disease, pneumonia. Although not feeling as well as usual he was at work last Monday but was obliged to give up Tuesday, since when he _ _ very rapidly, being a good sufferer, but never a complaint or murmur was heard from his lips. He fully realized his condition and expressed a wish to be baptized. Rev. Mr. Posson of Crown Point, was called and the holy rite of baptism was administered a short time before his death.
Mr. Hammond was born in Fort Edward a little more than 39 years ago, but made his home for some time when a young man with his uncle's family, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Moody of this place. Early in life he was united in marriage to Miss Etta Hall. Eight children were the result of their union, one of whom has already preceded him to the better world. Mr. Hammond was a man well liked by all and will be greatly missed by many outside of his immediate family.
He leaves a wife and seven children, the youngest only five months old and only one of whom is married, Mrs. Horace Armstrong of this place; also one brother, Walter Hammond of Plattsburg; one sister, Mrs. Frank Wilkins of Lake Plaicd. May He who has promised to be the widow's God and a father to the fatherless have them in his tender care.
The funeral services were held at the house Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Elder Joseph Dunn, and he was laid to rest in the city of the dead at Chilson. The afflicted family have the sincere sympathy of all.
