Louis was born on Dec. 18, 1866 to Benjamin and Elizabeth Mason Marfell. He was baptised by Fr P Webber at the Bible Christian Chapel in the Parish of Ruardean. Louis had four brothers and six sisters.
Louis married Sarah Ann Marshall on Sept. 14, 1884 at Holy Trinity in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England.
They had six children: Agnes, Emily, Mirium, Ethel, Louis, and Howard.
Sarah passed away in 1911 and Louis left for the United States. He was later joined by three of his children - Agnes, Louis, and Howard. Based on family lore and immigration records it appears Louis entered the US with Evangeline Manda Roberts. However, family members from Mrs. Roberts' family indicate she had left England with Louis leaving her husband an all children but Evelyn - the one she brought with her. I cannot find a marriage for Louis and Evangeline. However, they lived together as man and wife and made their home in LaSalle, Ill. Evangeline died in 1931.
Survivors were his six children: Louis, Howard, Mrs. Agnes Winter of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Emily Jones of Monmouthshire, Mrs. Mariam Morris and Miss Ethel Marfell [the writers of his obituary must have thought she was not married because her married name was the same as her maiden name] in England. His 3 sisters and one brother all in England still survive.
Parents preceded him in death.
His funeral was held at Clevenger funeral home, LaSalle with Rev George S. McClary officiating. Burial in Peru city cemetery.
The funeral announcement in the paper on Feb 6, 1946 stated:
Mrs. Ernest Knight sang "Abide with Me." Burial in Oakwood Cemetery [which is different from where his stone is and where his obituary indicated it would be].
Pallbearers were William Duncan, Gus Johnson, William J. Richards, Anton Gergovich, Henry Wolf and Ralph Roth.
