LOUIS E. KUENZEL

Louis E. Kuenzel, 75 (photo) a Two Rivers grocer, died of a heart attack at his home 1518 22nd street early today.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m Thursday at the St. Luke Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. C.V. Hugo officiating at a solemn requiem high mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Two Rivers.

Born in Koenigstein, Germany, in 1875, Mr. Kuenzel came to America 19 years later, settling in Nadeau, Mich. After a year of training at the Ferris institute in Big Rapids, Mich., he returned to Nadeau to establish a painting and decorating firm and became prominent in business and civic affairs, serving as a school board member.

He married the former Sara Emily Rouse in Nadeau in 1906. The family moved to Two Rivers in 1918 and Mr. Kuenzel worked for the Hamilton Manufacturing company as a cabinet maker. Seven years later, in 1925, he opened his grocery business at 2117 Washington street. He was active in the business until the time of his death.

Since his youth the deceased was intensely interested in music. He was an accomplished cornetist and had been a member of several instrumental combinations before coming to Two Rivers. He helped organize the St. Luke male choir more than 25 years ago. He was also a charter member and one of the organizers of the Meistersinger guild in 1930 and was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name society of St. Luke church.

Survivors besides Mrs. Kuenzel include one son, Elphege, who was associated with his father in the grocery business for the last nine years; four daughters, Mrs. Henry Wernecke, Mrs. Bernard Rhode, Mrs. Raymond Gilbert and Mrs. Arnold Se___, all of Manitowoc; and 13 grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the Klein and Stangel funeral home in Two Rivers from Wednesday noon until the hour of services Thursday morning. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
