Ruth L. Ramsay Evans, 94, of Portage, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage.
Ruth was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Portage, the daughter of Ernest and Magdalene (Lohr) Dickow. She graduated from Portage High School. Ruth married Ronald Ramsay in 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1986. She was active in the Caledonia Community, Homemakers, 4-H, bridge clubs, and Caledonia Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder. In 1987, Ruth married Clarence "Clem" Evans, and moved into Portage. She continued to be active with her church and Portage organizations, including the Portage Historical Society. Clem preceded her in death in 2011.
She is survived by her children, Renee Ramsay (James Reynolds), Franklin, North Carolina, and James (Diane) Ramsay, Merrimac; her grandchildren, Jason (Cassie) Ramsay, Eagan, Minnesota, and Erin (John) Scherbert, Merrimac; her great-grandsons, Thomas Ramsay and Cole Scherbert; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her folks; one son, Thomas J. Ramsay; her husbands, Ronald Ramsay and Clarence Evans; her sister, Magdalene Swisher; and her brother, Jack Dickow.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Caledonia Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paula Bremer officiating. Inurnment will be in Shanks Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caledonia Presbyterian Church, Portage Historical Society, and Portage Public Library. The family would like to thank Dr. Brenda Blohm, the staff at Divine Savior Healthcare, and the Heritage House for their care and support.
