Sidney Earl Lilly, 81, of Ballard, passed away July 6, 2014 at the Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA.
Born February 2, 1933 in Summers County, he was the son of the late Walter Earl and Ora Marie Pack Lilly.
Sidney was a member, and served as a trustee for Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill. He served in the U.S. Army, where he obtained the rank of Sgt. 1st Class in the Korean Military Advisory Group. He was a member of the American Legion and Lindside Odd Fellows. Sidney was retired from Hoechst Celanese Corp. in Narrows, VA and was widely known as a master carpenter.
Besides his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Lester Lilly, and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Reece Lilly; three sons, Sidney "Chip" Lilly and wife Donna of Rogersville, TN, Brian Rutrough and wife Elizabeth of Rocky Mt., VA, Matt Rutrough and wife Carole of Kingsport, TN; two daughters, Sandy Woodyard and husband Jerry of Narrows, VA, and Sharon McDaniel and husband Art of Ballard; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 God grandchildren; two sisters, Wilda Meredith and husband Emory of Rich Creek, VA, and Nina Stanley and husband Dick of Daniels.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill with Pastor Mike McCoy and Elder Richard Reece officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the funeral parlors and one hour prior to service time at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons; Ben Woodyard, Drannon Adkins, Ryan Rutrough, Reece Rutrough, Michael Bradley and Josh Brackenrich. Honorary pallbearers will be Myles Cook , Philip Reece, Darrell Allison and J.D. Jackson.
