Rachel Coleen (Ellis) Perry, 96, of Vian passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, in Sallisaw. She was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Vian, the daughter of Lonzo and Eady Ellis. She married Nolen Irby Perry on Dec. 23, 1939, in Greenwood. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1967. Mrs. Perry was a social worker for the Sequoyah County Welfare Department, a graduate of Connors State College and Northeastern State University, and she taught fifth grade at Marble City, Belfonte and Sallisaw schools and Seventh-Day Adventist Church School. Mrs. Perry was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for more than 60 years, where she also served as church treasurer for many years.
