Abraham Samuel Pagter, a cigarmaker. was the son of Samuel Salomon Pagter and Matje Abraham Leon. He was born 6 May 1826 in Amsterdam. On 20 Nov 1844, Abraham, age 18, married Maria Kloot, 24, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Soesman Levie Kloot and Saartje Bing.
