He was the son of Homer and Zora Roberts Stump. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Dotson Stump. He was a Korean War veteran and retired from General Motors Corporation with 30 years' service. He was the father of Judy Stump Gillenwater, Scott Stump and Michael Stump. The last 19 years of his life were spent with his beloved companion, Dorothy "Dot" Shanholtz Black and her children, Alan Black and Myra Elkins and Myra's daughter Nikki Clay.
