Sharon Norris
April 05, 1929 — May 31, 2014

Sharon Norris was born April 5, 1929 to Esther and Lucius Norris in Oakland, California. He was raised in the nearby community of Piedmont, California with his three siblings, (all now deceased) Westrick "Bubs", Elise and Bundy. Whenever asked of his hometown origins, Sharon would always grin and say in his characteristically comic drawl, "Pieeeeedmont," which was his way of paying tribute to his Bay Area roots and pride in his Sharon family heritage.

A graduate of Piedmont High School, he went on to attend the University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!). He also was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and served time in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. Sharon owned and operated Young's Allied Van Lines for 40 years. Sharon lived in Bakersfield for 55 years and moved to Cayucos 2 years ago. Sharon's extensive philanthropic involvement in Bakersfield was a reflection of the altruistic and thoughtful individual that he was, thus entailing his long list of contributions. He was a proud member of the 20-Gallon Club at Houchin Blood Bank, Dore Theater Board, the Lyons Club, 20/30 Club, Drove for the Blind, Red Cross, he served as President of Bakersfield Community Concerts, and was active as a member of the Ancient & Honorable Society of the Buckeye.

Never one to refuse a hearty cocktail or a rare piece of steak, Sharon never failed to bring life and laughter to any dinner table setting, with Mexicali being his favorite. A man of many talents, Sharon was an accomplished pianist as well as a "prune juice" and ice cream aficionado. Additionally he was an avid tennis player, where he would spend his lunch playing at the Racquet Club and at Stockdale Country Club.

Sharon passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on May 31st in Los Osos, CA. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Alberta Jo Chase Norris; children, John, David(Alison), and Pam Norris Somes (JP); and grandchildren Philip Kibbey (Michiko), Elise, Nicholas, and Emily.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the selfless individuals, friends, and extended family whose overwhelming love and support has been of invaluable assistance. They would also like to extend their utmost love and gratitude to Jamie Rossetti and her daughters Lily and Nicki, and caregivers Linda and Lori all of Nana's Garden Cottage in Los Osos, CA for providing a loving and comfortable haven.

In lieu of flowers, all donations should be referred to either Houchin Blood Bank at 11515 Bolthouse Dr. Bakersfield, CA 93311 or Dignity Health Hospice at 504 Plaza Drive Suite 1 Santa Maria, CA 93454

Services will be held in Trinity Anglican Church (Olive Drive Church Campus) at 5500 Olive Dr. on June 6 at 10 AM.
