Funeral services for Marian Welch, 78, of Knoxville, who died Jan. 20 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, were held Jan. 26 at the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Montz officiating. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.

Welch was born on Nov. 26, 1926, in Lancaster, Wis., to Earl and Beatrice Brandemuehl Hoffman. After high school she attended the Finley School of Nursing in Dubuque and began her career as a registered nurse at the Knoxville Veterans Administration Hospital, where she met Loyal Curtis Welch. They were married on Sept. 16, 1950. She served as a cadet in the Nursing Corps when he joined the military. She later worked at Collins Memorial Hospital and the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Welch was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Maxine Hoffman and JoAnn Schneider; two brothers-in-law: Vonnie Hall and David Alt; one niece, Jennifer Alt, and one grandchild, Erin Candelore.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters: Connie Wahl and Sandi and Andy Candelore; four grandchildren and a lifelong friend, Van Cameron.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Evans-McCleery Funeral Home.
